Zestica Pregnancy Test FAQ

How do pregnancy tests work?

All pregnancy tests work by detecting a certain hormone in the urine or blood that is only there when a woman is pregnant. This hormone is called human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. It is also called the pregnancy hormone.

hCG is made when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This usually happens about six days after the egg and sperm merge. The amount of hCG rapidly builds up in your body with each passing day you are pregnant.

Are there different types of pregnancy tests?

Yes. There are two types of pregnancy tests. One tests the blood for the pregnancy hormone, hCG. You need to see a doctor to have a blood test. The other checks the urine for the hCG hormone. You can do a urine test at home with the Zestica Home Pregnancy Test. These days, many women first use a Home Pregnancy Test to find out if they are pregnant before consulting a doctor. The Zestica Home Pregnancy Test is inexpensive, private and easy to use. It is also highly accurate if used correctly and at the right time.

How does the Zestica Home Pregnancy Test work?

The Zestica Home Pregnancy Test is a `midstream' test. It instructs the user to hold a stick in the urine stream. Then the woman needs to wait a few minutes. Once the time has passed, the user should inspect the "result window."

  • Negative: If only one pink line appears in the control area this is indicative of a negative (not pregnant) result.
  • Positive: If two pink lines appear (one in the control and one in the test area) this is indicative of a positive (pregnant) result.
  • Invalid: If no pink line is visible in either the control or the test area, the test is invalid and it is recommended you try another test.

What is the `Control Indicator'?

Most tests have a "control indicator" in the result window. This line or symbol shows whether the test is working properly. If the control indicator does not appear, the test is not working properly.

Most brands tell users to repeat the test in a few days, no matter what the results. One negative result (especially soon after a missed period) does not always mean you're not pregnant. If testing early (i.e. before the date of the expected period) you should always re-test at the time of your missed period.

How accurate is the Zestica Home Pregnancy Test?

Laboratory tests show over 99% accuracy. This means that if the pregnancy hormone in the sample is higher than the detection limit of the test, it will show up in the result.

  • How you use it - Be sure to check the expiry date and follow the instructions. A positive result can appear in as little as one minute. If the result is negative wait for 5 minutes to read the result. Do not read the result after 10 minutes.
  • When you use it - The amount of hCG or pregnancy hormone in your urine increases with time. The Zestica Pregnancy Test is sensitive enough to pick up a pregnancy before the first day of the missed period. We would also recommend testing your urine first thing in the morning as this will have the highest concentration of the hCG hormone.

How soon after a missed period can I take a Zestica Home Pregnancy Test and get an accurate result?

We recommend that you use the Zestica Home Pregnancy Test from the first day of the missed period.

The test can detect lower levels of the hormone, and could therefore detect pregnancy before the missed period. From the day of the missed period the levels of the hCG hormone are usually that high that they give good strong results. Early testing can sometimes give a result that women doubt and they will carry out a repeat test later on.

My Zestica Home Pregnancy Test says I am pregnant. What should I do next?

If a Zestica Home Pregnancy Test is positive and shows that you are pregnant, you should see your doctor. Seeing your doctor early on in your pregnancy will help you and your baby stay healthy.

My Zestica Home Pregnancy Test says that I am not pregnant. Might I still be pregnant?

Yes. It is possible to miscalculate the first day of a missed period. If testing too early, the level of the hCG hormone will still be too low to be detected by the test.

If you test again after a few days you will allow for any miscalculation.

If you keep getting a negative result but think you are pregnant, talk with your doctor right away.

Can anything affect the Zestica Home Pregnancy Test results?

Most medicines should not affect the results of a Zestica Home Pregnancy Test. This includes over-the-counter and prescription medicines, including birth control pills and antibiotics. Only medicines that have the pregnancy hormone hCG in them can give a false positive test result. A false positive is when a test says you are pregnant when you're not. Sometimes medicines containing hCG are used to treat infertility (not being able to get pregnant).

Alcohol and illegal drugs do not affect Zestica Home Pregnancy Test results. But do not use these substances if you are trying to become pregnant or are sexually active and could become pregnant.
