Zestica Conception Kit - Principles of the kit

The kit focuses on 3 key areas:

Identify the days when you are fertile.

The concept of ovulation kits is becoming well-known.

Each cycle there are only 2 days when an egg can be fertilised. Whilst an average cycle length is 28 days, many women have different cycle lengths and it is not straightforward to pinpoint those 2 days.

Just before ovulation one of the woman's hormones (LH or luteinising hormone) rises. The principle of the ovulation test is based on detecting this rise. Once detected it means you could ovulate within 24 - 48 Hrs.

Note: technically speaking ovulation kits do not detect ovulation. They detect the rise of a hormone that is indicative of ovulation about to happen.

Zestica Ovulation Kit

The Zestica Ovulation Kit contains 7 ovulation tests.

The instructions will guide you as to when you should start testing. You will then use one test a day.

The purpose is to detect the rise of the hormone (LH) so if this happens before using all the tests you do not have to use up the remaining tests.

The control line has a known amount of LH, fixed on the test device. Women have a certain level of the LH hormone anyway so it is possible to see a faint line in the Test zone as well as the Control zone.

The control line, with its fixed level of LH will always have the same intensity.

The result line will pick up more LH as the concentration in your urine rises. At the moment when the result line has the same intensity (or greater intensity) than the control line is when you are detecting the rise of the hormone level.

Achieve and maintain a healthy vaginal balance.

BV (or bacterial vaginosis) is the most common vaginal infection (twice as common as thrush) but the least well-known.

Technically it is not an infection but an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria that are normally present in the vagina. When they are in balance this limits potentially bad outcomes in a number of situations.

Mostly this is treated with antibiotics like metronidazole but alternative methods are emerging that in some studies show as good a result as antibiotics but with no side-effects.

A lot of studies are ongoing and our knowledge for better management of BV expands continuously.

In Reproductive Health the focus has been on reducing BV in order to reduce early miscarriage and premature birth.

Zestica is looking at the research before conception and have found 2 potential areas where BV prior to ovulation could affect conception. It focuses on the by-products of the pathogens (bad bacteria) and explains why killing the bacteria with antibiotics does not affect these by-products. Until we have trials that support the theory we can not make any claims and our Conception Gel is included with its approved claims of " achieves and maintains a balanced vaginal flora".

2 potential areas

The research with the Zestica Conception Gel will focus on 2 areas:

  • The potential to improve the quality of the cervical mucus.

At the time of ovulation the sex hormones interact with the cervical mucus. When you have BV the potential is that a by-product (sialidase) has been produced to a level that this interaction is cut.

The result would be that the cervical mucus remains as a plug and sperm can not get through.

  • The potential to improve implantation rates of the fertilised egg.

Studies show that a high level of endotoxins (a by-product) of BV affect the development and implantation of a fertilised egg, leading to early miscarriage.

Research will focus on whether prevention of BV will also lead to prevention of endotoxin build up and a reduction of the early miscarriages linked to this.

No studies exist yet that show that the use of the Zestica product will show a better result in the two areas mentioned above.

The kit contains 10 single use applicators.

6 are used before ovulation. This aims to get you to the time of ovulation with a healthy, balanced vaginal flora. 4 are used after ovulation. This aims to restore and maintain a healthy, balanced vaginal flora post ovulation.

Give sperm a chance.

Sperm quality has been declining over the last 40-50 years. One of the parameters of sperm is its motility and for some couples poor motility could be the issue.

Zestica Fertility is a lubricant that has been proven to help sperm with poor motility.

The product is used as a lubricant but, unlike normal lubricants, it provides the right pH environment for sperm. This makes the vagina, temporarily, less hostile and allows the sperm to survive for longer.

The hyaluronic acid in the product detects only good, motile sperm. Recent studies hint that this protection may be helping sperm to retain their internal pH which they need to maintain motility.

The kit contains 6 single use applicators. One application each time you have intercourse around the time of ovulation.
